As part of this Artist Talk, Rindon Johnson will join us online to discuss his exhibition “Best Synthetic Answer,” which was on view at the Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai in 2024. Following the talk, there will be a discussion and Q&A session moderated by Annika Larsson.

We’ll round out the evening with small finger foods prepared in SPCE’s temporary, mobile, and multifunctional kitchen.

The exhibition “Best Synthetic Answer” navigates the complex geographies of the Pacific and challenges traditional notions of borders, fixed territory, nation-states, and ecocide. The Pacific is a hub of economic activity: its seabed is divided up for mining, (...)

Für das Sommersemester 2026 freuen wir uns, unsere vier Gastdozent*innen für das Programm „Time Based Media“ begrüßen zu dürfen, Alisa Berger, Doireann O’Malley, Julia Tielke und Vera Shchelkina

Alisa Berger was born in 1987 in Makhachkala, Republic of Dagestan, and raised in Lviv, Ukraine. She studied film and fine arts at the Academy of Media Art Cologne (KHM) and at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia Bogotá. With her diploma film and fiction feature debut, ‘The Astronauts‘ Bodies’, she was nominated for the Max Ophüls Prize and for the FIRST STEPS Award of the Deutsche Filmakademie. (...)

„Daddy“ von Jane Han im Wettbewerb Kurzfilm Filmfest SH

Wir freuen uns sehr, bekannt zu geben, dass der Kurzfilm „Daddy“ von dem Time Based Media Studierenden Jane Han für den Wettbewerb Kurzfilm an der Filmfest SH ausgewählt wurde.

Über den Film:

Jane Hans jüngster Film „Daddy“ (2025) imaginiert ein Gespräch mit ihrem verstorbenen Vater mithilfe eines KI-Systems neu. Aus Erinnerungen an seinen Dialekt, seine Redewendungen und seine persönliche Sprache konstruiert sie einen fiktiven Dialog, der nie stattgefunden hat – und vielleicht doch immer nötig war. Jane Han begreift Unsicherheit und Widerspruch als kreative Werkzeuge und reflektiert in ihrer Arbeit, wie wir Verlust, Zugehörigkeit und die Ethik des Menschseins verhandeln.

Please join us for the artist talk with Bethan Hughes on Tuesday 13th Jan at 19.30 in the ZFM Seminar room. We are especially happy that the artist will be present on site for this event. Before the talk there will be a screening of  her work An Elastic Continuum. The talk will be moderated by Annika Larsson.

Bethan Hughes creates audio-visual installations, sculptures and publications that explore social architectures and their aesthetic dimensions. Interweaving archival research and speculative narratives, she examines the unnatural ecologies generated through industry, (...)

Starting at sunset (16:24) and ending at sunrise (8:12), the stay at the Kunsthalle offered new insights while being filled with sound pieces, screenings, performances, readings & food.

After the screening there will be a conversation with the artist Doireann O’Malley who will be present on site. 

 

Conversations on a Cross-Town Algorithm is an  immersive 3D-animation, which adopts the narrative structure of a three-act theatre play, centers around a conversation between two characters, Samantha & Olda Wiser performed by Mathea Hoffmann and Juan Carlos Cuadrado. The two, sheer strangers when the play starts, slowly but surely dive into eachothers life stories, traumata,dreams, and nightmares, at times mirrored others counteracted by changing oneiric surroundings. Im Rahmen von NUKLEUS zeigt Annika Larsson ihren Film Tremulations am 25. November um 20:30 Uhr im Studio Filmtheater am Dreiecksplatz.

Der Film „Tremulations“ nimmt seinen Ausgangspunkt in einem ehemaligen militärischen Signalhaus innerhalb der nahezu 400 Jahre alten Festung Friedrichsort in Kiel. Das heute privat genutzte, der Öffentlichkeit unzugängliche Gelände ist in Teilen von der Natur zurückerobert und zählt zu einem der geschichtsreichsten Orte Kiels.
Annika Larsson erkundet filmisch die ehemalige Sonarstation und ihre Umgebung. Dabei rückt sie die evolutionären Entwicklungen militärischer Verteidigung, die fortwährende Kriegsindustrie und deren toxische Spuren auf dem Meeresboden in den Fokus.

Darüber hinaus untersucht der Film die symbiotischen Beziehungen zwischen Natur, Mensch und Technik. (...)
